This time the disaster is called Law

It must be a typical week for Prime Video India I guess. Another week and another disaster. This time it’s a Kannada film called Law. Law is the first Kannada film to be directly released on Prime Video. Maybe it’s a boon for the film. The film wouldn’t have fared well if it had been released in theatres.

Law is a film that wants to be a courtroom drama. But it ends being a bag full of clichés. An MLA’s son who is a spoilt brat, police who literally laughs off a complaint, students who go on a protest after watching a Facebook video, characters with bad intentions having conversations over cigarettes and alcohol, a farmhouse and a rape case, a character wearing aviators to indicate a twist in the story, a negative character with long hair, a pen camera, patho music to remind the audience that something sad just occurred, and the list just goes on.

At times the film looked like a poorly made short film which one can access on YouTube. Montages filled with time-lapses and slow-mos. Scenes that serve no purpose to the story. I can’t help but wonder why PRK productions would produce something like this. I guess all the money was spent on hiring an ensemble cast. Instead, the money could have been spent on script curators, writers and good editors. Only if the characters are well written can the actors perform. They aren’t magicians to deliver something out of nothing.

I don’t want to waste more of my time delving into this film. I have already spent more than two hours on it. I don’t want to be wasting your time as well. So, in short, skip this film. I guess from here onwards it’s an upward journey for Prime Video India. Because this looks like the rock bottom. Or, they could surprise me with something worse. I don’t know, I have lost faith in them.
